I have a hilarious story! So a couple weeks back when Jan was here; Johnathan, her & I went to the Denver Zoo on Monday, June 7th. Nate was taking his big test. So soon after we got there, we saw a beautiful male peacock. It was great! I got beautiful pictures of him all flared out. His wing-span of feathers was HUGE! So we were showing him to Johnathan, and it's like he suddenly saw Johnathan in the stroller and he turned toward him and started RUNNING at him while hissing and flaring out his tongue. (It was immediately after I took that second picture!) I was so scared for my baby, so I quickly got in between Johnathan and the crazy male peacock. And I think that was what stopped his ATTACK. : ) It scared Johnathan to death though and he was crying and screaming. My poor boy. I felt so bad for him and I didn't want him to have a fear of pretty peacock's. But I was so mad at that possessive crazy bird that is no different than a stupid turkey other than it has prettier feathers.
(Think of Johnathan's view...this new animal was charging towards him that was the size of a rhinoceros and had a hundred eyes!)
So just wait...the story gets better!!!
Last night, we saw on 9 News a news report of a peacock at Denver Zoo that attacked a 3 year old boy on Thursday and pecked and clawed at him so much that it sent him to the hospital! He was all cut up on his face and his nose was torn down to the cartilage!!! The boy had to have a bunch of stitches and apparently his face looked so bad his parents didn't want to show a picture of him on the news. I feel SO bad for this boy; that could have been Johnathan! Think how scared he must have been!
And Denver Zoo was like, "This has never happened before!". But now they are looking into if it is safe for peacocks to be roaming freely about the zoo grounds. They did say that currently this particular peacock is in containment being "monitored". I bet you ANYTHING it is the same peacock! I called the zoo the next day and I also emailed them. I told them the story and I told them I have pictures of this guy in case they want to compare them. Maybe this is just a "problem peacock" and needs to be sent to "peacock wooded acres" or to "peacock heaven". : )
